SHREK

Ogre Shrek lives in a swamp. He is very much by himself and chases away anyone who comes near his home. One day Lord Farquaad, the ruler of the nearby kingdom, decides to banish all fairy tale characters from his realm. He uses precisely Shrek’s swamp as a refuge camp for these characters.

Shrek does not put up with this and, accompanied against his will by Donkey (a donkey who can do anything except keep his mouth shut), goes to Farquaad to seek redress. Farquaad, meanwhile, has set his sights on the beautiful princess Fiona, who is locked in a tower guarded by a dragon. He himself does not have the courage to go and free her, but wants to marry her in order to become king. When Shrek comes to complain, Farquaad makes a deal with him; he will give Shrek his swamp back if Shrek goes to get Princess Fiona for him.

The film was such a success because of its contrarian nature that a whole series of sequels have since been released.
