BROTHER BEAR

The Disney film Brother Bear, released in 2003, is a touching animated adventure with themes of brotherhood, empathy and nature. Set in Alaska after the ice age, the story follows Kenai, a young Inuit hunter who hates bears. After Kenai kills a bear to avenge his oldest brother Sitka, the spirits punish him by turning him into a bear himself. To become human again, Kenai must travel to “where the light touches the earth,” accompanied by a talkative bear cub named Koda, who is in search of the salmon run. During their journey, Kenai learns to see the world from a different perspective, develops a deep bond with Koda and realizes the devastation caused by his previous actions. He also discovers that the mother Koda talks about was the bear he killed. The film features songs by Phil Collins and the comedic moments of two Canadian moose, Rutt and Tuke, and ultimately tells a moving story of coming of age, love, loss and empathy.
