PINOCCHIO
Pinocchio tells the story of wood carver Geppetto, who makes a wooden puppet and names him Pinocchio. Before he goes to sleep, he wishes Pinocchio would one day become a real boy. When the Blue Fairy visits the house at night, she awakens the puppet to life. She tells him that with the performance of good deeds, he can become a real boy. Jiminy Cricket offers to serve as Pinocchio’s conscience and keep him on the straight and narrow.
The next day, Pinocchio has to go to school, but on the way he meets a pair of swindlers: the fox Honest John and his helper, the cat Gideon. Pinocchio is persuaded by them to participate in the puppet theater of Stromboli, instead of going to school. That night Pinocchio gives his first performance and it proves to be a great success. However, the puppeteer Stromboli soon afterwards shows his true nature: of the money earned, Pinocchio gets nothing. He is imprisoned by Stromboli. Pinocchio, with the help of Jiminy Cricket, manages to escape from Stromboli’s caravan.
Meanwhile, Jantje Fatsoen and Gideon are hired by a coachman, who wants them to look for disobedient boys for him. They must persuade them to come with him to Pleasure Island. The two run into Pinocchio who is on his way home and send him too with the coachman. They arrive at the island, which consists of a large amusement park where everyone is allowed to do whatever they want (such as smoke and drink alcohol). Then it turns out that there is a catch: because of their bad behavior, the children all turn into donkeys moments later. Pinocchio also begins to change, but again, with the help of Jiminy, he can just barely escape the island.
At sea, they are swallowed by the whale Monstro. In the whale’s stomach, the two are reunited with Geppetto, who is overjoyed to see them again. Together they plan an escape. By lighting a fire, they make Monstro sneeze so that he spits out the boat with them on it. Jiminy and Geppetto remain unharmed, but then they see Pinocchio’s lifeless body a short distance away. Jiminy and Geppetto return home deeply saddened with Pinocchio’s body, where they put Pinocchio to bed. Geppetto is inconsolable, but then the blue fairy suddenly reappears. She brings Pinocchio back to life and at the same time transforms him into a real boy, as a reward for his brave behavior.
