Turning Red is a Disney Pixar animated film available to stream on Disney+. The film follows Meilin “Mei” Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian girl in Toronto, as she goes through the trials of becoming an adult, including a complicated relationship with her overprotective mother. When Mei experiences intense emotions, she transforms into a giant red panda. The film explores themes of adolescence, family expectations and the search for one’s identity. Meilin is a big fan of a boy band. Mei must learn to cope with her panda form while struggling with typical teenage problems and the pressure to meet her family’s expectations.
