THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

The Devil Wears Prada (2006) follows Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne Hathaway), an ambitious journalist who gets a job that “millions of girls would die for” as junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the ruthless and demanding editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway. Andy, initially uninterested in fashion and critical of the superficial industry, struggles to meet Miranda’s impossible demands while being mocked by her colleagues. To succeed, she changes her appearance and work ethic with the help of art director Nigel. As she becomes indispensable to Miranda, however, her personal life collapses, straining relationships with her boyfriend and friends. Eventually, after seeing the ruthless nature of the industry in Paris, Andy realizes the high price of success and chooses to leave, regain her integrity and pursue a career in traditional journalism. The film highlights themes of ambition, toxic working conditions and maintaining personal values.
