FRANKENWEENIE

Tim Burton’s stop-motion film Frankenweenie tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a lonely boy whose life is turned upside down when his beloved bull terrier Sparky is hit by a car. Mourning his loss, Victor uses his passion for science and a powerful thunderstorm to resuscitate his dog. However, he must keep the resurrected Sparky a secret, especially when his curious classmates learn his method and resurrect their own dead pets, leading to a climactic monster movie.
A sincere homage to classic horror films, the film is set in a stylized 1950s American town full of unique characters and a monochromatic aesthetic. The film explores themes of grief, friendship and the power of science, highlighting Victor’s maverick nature and the importance of his bond with Sparky. The story culminates with a dramatic confrontation, in which the revived pets and frightened villagers create a chaotic but ultimately heroic spectacle. This affirms the enduring love between a boy and his dog.
